Happiness is when what you think, what you say,
and what you do are in harmony.

About Us

Jamnalal Bajaj Vishwaneedam is a non-profit organization working in the field of women empowerment in India. We provide free skill-based courses to women from low-income families to help them achieve their goals of employability and economic independence.
JBV was founded on 14 April 1960 by Shri. Kamalnayan Bajaj at the suggestion of Acharya Vinoba Bhave, an advocate of human rights and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. It was inaugurated four days later by his brother Shri. Balkobaji Bhave.

The institute is named after and in memory of Shri. Jamnalal Bajaj. The word Vishwa in Sanksrit means the world and needam means a nest or home. Together, vishwaneedam is ‘a home to all in the world’.

Our Vision

To empower people with the optimal skills to help them achieve economic independence and self-reliance.

Our Mission

To provide our students a safe and inspirational environment with well-structured and relevant courses and well-trained teachers who maximize their potential and help them achieve their goal of being gainfully employed or starting their own business.

Our Work

Skill-based training

Many women from low-income homes in India struggle to complete their education and have limited access to employment opportunities. Lack of freedom and choice forces them to depend on others at home for their needs. JBV aims to tackle this issue by teaching them skills that are in demand in the local market. Apart from employability and soft skills, women students at JBV receive training on language and communication, life and positive thinking, personality development, management, and behaviour and etiquette.

Balwadi (Day Care Centre for Children)

To support mothers enrolled in skill-based courses, JBV runs a balwadi (a day care centre) for their children aged between 2.5 and 4.5 years. While the mothers are in training, the Balwadi teachers engage the children in play-based learning activities and provide them with nutritious food.

Goushala (Shelter for Cows)

To promote compassion towards animals, Mahatma Gandhi and Shri. Jamnalal Bajaj promoted the idea of gouseva (care for cows). In keeping with these founding values, JBV cares for multiple cows (and calves) by fulfilling their nutritional and medical requirements. Their feed is grown organically on the campus and a vet checks them on a weekly basis. Milk produced at the shelter is given to the children at the balwadi.

The JBV Campus

Green Oasis

Our verdant campus, rich in flora and beautiful fauna, promises a refreshing and a peaceful environment to all its visitors, which is a rarity in crowded and polluted cities like Bengaluru.
Buildings on the campus have been designed and built to preserve the natural environment and the habitats of many species of birds and animals.

Our History

Creation of JBV

14 October 1957: During his Bhoodan Yajna Padyatra, Acharya Vinoba Bhave spent six days in Bengaluru and was inspired by the people he met and the lovely weather. He wanted to create a ‘Sarvodaya Nagar’ to promote the ‘Sarvodaya’ philosophy, which is to ‘devote oneself to the service of others’. The overarching idea was to have people from all walks of life come together to share knowledge and experiences that would benefit the local community and the county as a whole.

To realize this dream, Kamalnayan Bajaj purchased 400 acres of land on Magadi Road, Bengaluru, and decided to build a campus, called ‘Vishwaneedam’.

Shri. Jamnalal Bajaj With Mahatma Gandhi

Creation of JBST

The Jamnalal Bajaj Seva Trust (JBST) is a public charitable trust created under the trust deed dated 7 September 1942. The trust was formed by the late Shri. Kamalnayan Bajaj, at the insistence of Mahatma Gandhi, to honour the memory of the former’s father, late Shri. Jamnalal Bajaj. Gandhiji himself drafted the memorandum and articles of association as well as the objectives of the trust. Shri. Jamnalal Bajaj was born on 4 November 1889 in a small village called Kashika-bas in Sikar, Rajasthan. He was adopted by Bachhraj Bajaj, who brought him to Wardha, Maharashtra. Also known as Mahatma Gandhi’s 5th son, Jamnalal Bajaj devoted much of his adult life to India’s freedom struggle and to the service of the people of India. His last wish was to build a ‘trust’ from his personal wealth to serve the public. Thus, the Jamnalal Bajaj Seva Trust was created. Gandhiji had once mentioned in reference to Jamnalalji, ‘Whenever I wrote of wealthy men becoming trustees of their wealth for the common good, I had always this merchant prince principally in mind’.
